Those Italian men just don’t take no for an answer.

So, I’ve been taking some audio Italian lessons. The latest lesson is killing me. I can’t stop laughing. I hope that actually helps my memorization. Here is the conversation that we are following:

he: Where is the Hotel via Venetto please?
she: It’s over there on Venetto street.
he: Would you like to drink something with me, miss?
she: Not miss, Mrs.
he: Sorry, ma’am. But would you like to drink something with me?
she: No, thank you.
he: Not now.
she: And not later.
he: But at 1:00 agreed?
she: It’s not alright with me.
he: At 2:00?
she: No, thank you. I do not want to. (with emphasis)
he: Later, at 8:00?
she: No, thank you.
he: Or at 9:00?
she: Certainly not.
he: At what time? Tell me, at what time? What time would you like to drink something with me?
she: I do not want to drink something with you. (with emphasis)
he: Ah, I understand now. (with emphasis)
she: That’s good. You understand now.
he: Yes, you don’t want to drink something with me. But you would like to eat something with me. At the restaurant. At 1:00 or at 2:00?
she: Not at 1:00 and not at 2:00. …not at 8:00 and not at 9:00.
he: At what time?
she: You don’t understand, sir.
he: What don’t I understand?
she: You don’t understand Italian, sir.

Library minions

I like this.

It’s been a LOOOOONG time since I checked anything out from a library. As I mentioned previously, I activated my card on Saturday. Now this great thing is happening.

I go on-line and tell the library minions to go forth, seek out my desires from around the city. Bring them to me. They then systematically appear about 7 or 8 blocks from my house. I walk there. I speak with no one*. I give them no money. I leave with exciting new things to enjoy.

This was a good bandwagon to jump on to.

I’m currently having the minions accumulate pretty much all of the crocheting books in the region and various movies that I’m interested in seeing at some point, but not enough to shell out actual cash for first. I watched Bridget Jones Edge of Reason last night. I have Hotel Rwanda at home as well. I also have the first crochet book that doesn’t look terribly promising.

*OK that’s a lie. I had to talk to someone for the DVD’s that they keep in a little sequestered room, but everything else is out for my own access on the hold shelf.
