Halloween 2007

Well, it was a rough start. My porch light sensor has gone haywire lately, which isn’t very trick-or-treat friendly. To solve that in the temporary sense, I’ve purchased a string of gravestone lights for the yard and I’m putting a flashlighty lantern on the porch. That should solve the strobe-lighty issue I’m having with the regular porch light. Also Gabe’s battery died, so I loaned him my car to go get a new one. I wasn’t about to not be home on Halloween, one of my favorite nights of the year.

I’m also trying something a little different with the pumpkin this year. Now that it’s award winning*, I decided to keep it indoors. (OK, really it’s just that I’ve never found a good place for it and the fire makes me nervous outside. I should get one of those lightbulb options.) So, I set it up inside my bedroom. In the process, I was raising the mini-blinds only to have them crash down to the flloor, much as one in the living room did a couple months ago. Perhaps I need to just buy replacements all around.

But now, I’m all set up ready to go with my annual trick-or-treater count. I notice I don’t have an entry from last year, which seems odd. I thought I remember doing it both years. Hmm. Perhaps it was just too depressing to list the paltry amount of trick-or-treaters. I want to say it was about 9.

6:45 – 2 little girls
7:10 – 3 teenagers in no costumes with their backpacks
7:15 – 4 more teenagers in no costumes who maveled at my pumpkin
8:05 – 3 neighbor kids who were very cold with their dad

And at 9:45 we turned off the lights when Gabe left. Grand total: 12 just like 2 years ago. I was very generous with the candy.

*I won “most creative” in the company contest out of 7 entries. Not that there was much creativity involved, just good pattern selection and perseverance.

Um, yay?

Last week I finally managed to forget to return a DVD on time to the library. I also hadn’t watched it yet. I figured I already was going to have to deal with paying the fine, and it’s so paltry, that I held on to the DVD for a few more days and finally returned it after hours about 4 days late along with a book that was due that day. I expected to have to pay the exorbitant $0.20 fine the next time I was going to go in to check something out. When I checked my account info on-line once business resumed at the library, I discovered that the fine had vanished. Huh? I thought maybe it was just an on-line glitch, but when I picked up some more stuff yesterday, the computer told me I owed nothing. So weird. Somehow, I feel guilty.

In other related news though, when I was checking out I noticed that the checkout time for DVDs is going to be extended to 2 weeks starting November 1st. Yay! Although, that means waiting even longer to get those DVDs that I’m 500th in line for.

The internet is weird

My 10 videos have been up on YouTube for over a month now. I had gotten one random comment between them before today. Then, within half an hour, I got comments on two different videos from two different users. Weird.

OK, that’s a quick turnaround

As I was clicking save an IT person showed up at my cube. He was all confused. He did his magic though and used his powers and thus, I have my google toolbar back again.

Phew.

Everyone escapes alive.

You know, it’s funny how the “low” priority requests seem to get lightening fast response. High, not as much. I suppose it’s more to do with ease of action.

You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry

I feel rage building. GAH!

My google toolbar disappeared today on my work computer.

Apparently we lost rights to add things, so when it tried to update, it became no more. I spent quite awhile trying to resolve the issue before confirming that it was a real thing.

I use it constantly. It’s like I don’t know how to search any more. Plus I use the popup blocker because I hate IE’s so I disabled it long ago. And spell check. And so many more things. I didn’t know how much I relied on it until today.

I put in a request. Let’s see what happens.
