Winner!
Woo-hoo!
According to NaNoWriMo, I wrote 50,058 words. According to Word, it was 50,056. Only a two word discrepancy. Much closer than others I have heard. It was hard to finish it. I could have kept writing more, but I kind of had a particular point I wanted to end it on. I tried to add some filler elsewhere.
I’m glad I did it. I’m amazed I did it. This was a frustrating yet fully satisfying experience. I think it helped give me insight into how the other half lives a bit. It’s good that I didn’t expect much out of myself. I think that made it easier to just write without worrying about it. I’m happy with the overall result, but it’s clearly not anywhere close to a finished work. It ended in a completely different location than I thought it would. I started dropping some obvious directional plot points in early then never picked those up again. That kind of bugs me, but as long as I don’t go back and read the dangling plots, I’ll be OK.

So. Torn. I want to finish it up and yet I don’t want to stay up too late doing it. If I keep going I’ll feel like I have to stay up until it’s finished…
Scratch that whole dilema. I was torn. Now I’m officially done for the day. Gabe stopped by and pleaded with me to come play in the snow with him. OK, so not much pleading was necessary. So, 3,366 words were written today, which is still a new personal best. I should be able to finish easily tomorrow even though I do expect to return to work.
Those were some beautiful gigantic flakes of snow tonight.

Yes, it’s technically behind schedule by 648, but I’m not in the least big concerned about it. It’s started flying today. I had one last semi-event before the big ending that I threw in. A perilous drive in the snow. Gee, wonder what inspired that? Anyway, I just started in on the final event. Should be cake from here. I’ve technically already written more than the total above. That’s just the last number that the update page on their website accepted as today.
Anyway. 2548 words today, which mostly made up for the lack of writing yesterday. (BTW, the geeks list rant yesterday was almost 1300 words. If only I’d used my powers for good…) That’s my third highest one day total. I’m going to keep writing for a bit tonight. I’m on a roll. I’m seriously hoping to finish tomorrow, which would mean tomorrow’s total would far exceed my previous record. That’s why it’s called hope!

Yep. Not a single word today. Well, many a word in the rant I had about my 4 hour and 20 minute commute home. But not a single novel word.
There is no way you could convince me to go to work tomorrow though, so, hopefully I can get at it again. “Unfortunately” I didn’t bring my work laptop home. Too bad. No working from home for me.

Despite the snow, I ended up with a decent total. Now that we’re winding down on the month, I’m letting myself stay up a little later to finish. Plus, I figure with all the snow today, I probably won’t want to leave for work quite so early tomorrow. We got at least 2 inches here by the way. It’s hard to say exactly because there was melting and such in the process as well. Some neighbors were out building a snowman in the dark tonight as well. They commented that it may be the only one we get this year. It was good snowman snow too. Now the temperatures have dropped and I can only hope ice isn’t a major problem tomorrow.
Anyway, for NaNoWriMo, I managed 2,064 words today. This puts me 376 words ahead of my 28 day pace and only 100 words off the 30 day pace. I’m a little nervous about all this, but I guess that just means I need to be serious this week. Why must the month end on a Thursday? At least I’m in an OK position to start the week.
Snow is pretty
And it interferes with novel writing.

Good day today. I broke 3,000 for the second time and managed to catch up as well. With 3,128 words today, I am now 98 words ahead of the 28 day pace and only 498 words off of the 30 day pace.
Part of me wants to keep going tonight, but I need to get some sleep. I also need to not burn out. I hope (and probably need) to get further ahead tomorrow. If I can have a repeat of today’s count tomorrow, I’ll be sitting pretty.
I have one more big event to cover in the story. I can’t decide how many words the event will use up. Right now I’m stalling before I start. If I were to cover it and be 3,000 words short or something, I’m not sure what I’d do. Somehow it’s harder to go back and fill in than it is to just write more to begin with in the sections. It’ll be silly though, if I’m only halfway through the event when I hit 50,000. As long as I get to 50,000 though, I’ll deal with that.

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. I enjoyed mine with Gabe up at my parents house as usual. I’ve been somewhat incommunicado, but luckily I’ve had my laptop to do at least some writing on.
On Thursday I wrote about 600 words in the morning and then finished off the day with 1027 words written for the day. That brought my total to 36,530.
We’ve just hit the end of Friday, and with midnight, I’m stopping to report my total. I might keep writing for a bit, but it will be included in Saturday’s total. I had a lot of fun describing a shopping experience involving this dress earlier. So, for Friday, when I had pretty much nothing else going on, I achieved a fairly paltry 1511 considering my aspirations. I’m now at 38,041 and 1241 behind my 28 day pace. It makes me more nervous to get behind so late in the month. There’s less time to play catch up, and I’ve not proven my abilities to write a lot when I have plenty of time. “Tomorrow…” she pondered hopefully.

I finally went back and worked out the transition in this section tonight. Much later, but I realized I needed a couple of the characters to be a year older, so I added in a joint birthday celebration which actually tied the events from before and after together pretty well.
This was partially necessary because the latter portions of the novel have gotten a bit tiresome. I finished off the latest event and the characters are now just kind of going about thier days hoping for something interesting to happen. I know a future point I want to get to before the end. Hopefully I can figure out a way to get there shortly.
I wrote 2249 words today. I also reached and exceeded 100 pages.

Today was better, but yesterday left me with a significant deficit. I wrote 1929 words today. What’s funny is I think I did better tonight because I left for a couple hours to open Firefly trading card packs at Gabes. It’s funny what compressed times can do for you. That was the most I’ve written on a week night that wasn’t a Friday.
Oh, and only 49 words were stolen from Shakespeare today.
