Yay!
My dad’s home from the hospital! He even gets to shower again, which they had originally told him he couldn’t do for months. When he told me about that before the surgery he seemed really distraught about it, so I’m very pleased for him.
If only I could visit him. Stupid flu. Today I added the sore throat so I’ve now had all the symptoms. Still at home in bed. So bored. Head full of goo where a brain should be.
Sick, Dad, Dublin
I’m sick. Interesting timing. I had a strong cough urge yesterday, but was hoping it was nothing. But after sleeping 11 hours last night and waking up with “sexy voice” it is clear. Very sad because I had planned to visit my dad in the hospital today. Clearly that’s a no-no now, especially since he’s down a lobe of lung. Not that you could tell though. He’s feeling amazing. Some of that could be the morphine though.
They also are pretty sure they got all the cancer. Yay! (Well, I’m adding the “pretty sure”. My dad said they did.)
Hopefully it passes quickly because I bought my plane tickets for Ireland last night. I’ve got about a week to be rid of it. I still don’t really believe
I’m going.
Speaking of, I’ll be changing planes in Amsterdam. I can’t decide if that means I’ll be able to say I’ve been to The Netherlands. If I were going by my states visited rules, it would count. Somehow it feels more like cheating with whole countries.
Minor Dad update
My dad’s surgery has been somewhat postponed while they perform a few additional tests, mostly to make sure he can handle the surgery OK. Also, his surgeon is going out of town for a week, and the soonest he would have been able to go in was the day before he left. We’re now looking at end of February, beginning of March.
They already did some tests on his lung capacity and he passed with flying colours. Today they were trying to figure out the source of his past anemia and came up empty from the two tests they ran. Next week they’ll test his heart.
I kind of wish they could just get it over with. As much as it is going to suck, part of me just thinks, “It’s cancer, it spreads, get it out of there!” I’m glad they’re being careful though. It’s such a major surgery that that in and of itself is quite scary.
