Well, it was a rough start. My porch light sensor has gone haywire lately, which isn’t very trick-or-treat friendly. To solve that in the temporary sense, I’ve purchased a string of gravestone lights for the yard and I’m putting a flashlighty lantern on the porch. That should solve the strobe-lighty issue I’m having with the regular porch light. Also Gabe’s battery died, so I loaned him my car to go get a new one. I wasn’t about to not be home on Halloween, one of my favorite nights of the year.
I’m also trying something a little different with the pumpkin this year. Now that it’s award winning*, I decided to keep it indoors. (OK, really it’s just that I’ve never found a good place for it and the fire makes me nervous outside. I should get one of those lightbulb options.) So, I set it up inside my bedroom. In the process, I was raising the mini-blinds only to have them crash down to the flloor, much as one in the living room did a couple months ago. Perhaps I need to just buy replacements all around.
But now, I’m all set up ready to go with my annual trick-or-treater count. I notice I don’t have an entry from last year, which seems odd. I thought I remember doing it both years. Hmm. Perhaps it was just too depressing to list the paltry amount of trick-or-treaters. I want to say it was about 9.
6:45 – 2 little girls
7:10 – 3 teenagers in no costumes with their backpacks
7:15 – 4 more teenagers in no costumes who maveled at my pumpkin
8:05 – 3 neighbor kids who were very cold with their dad
And at 9:45 we turned off the lights when Gabe left. Grand total: 12 just like 2 years ago. I was very generous with the candy.
*I won “most creative” in the company contest out of 7 entries. Not that there was much creativity involved, just good pattern selection and perseverance.
